I’m excited to share about my recent experience after being asked to get up as a guest speaker at the Women in Tech // HSV event, “Turn Fear into Power: Fueling Your Journey to Success.” Held at the Invention to Innovation Center (I2C) on The University of Alabama in Huntsville's campus, this workshop was led by the incredible Sonya Bailor, Founder and CEO of Bailor Group. The aim was to explore the roots of fear and provide practical tools to transform it into a powerful asset.

My journey as CEO of OTC, Inc. began during the challenging COVID-19 pandemic. Our team was shrinking, and traditional marketing was no longer effective. Despite my years of experience, I struggled with imposter syndrome, constantly questioning my abilities and leadership.

The turning point came at a women’s business proclamation event, where I met amazing mentors like Sonya Bailor and Kuan Collins . Their insights were invaluable and helped me confront imposter syndrome head-on. I had to remind myself that I am a technical mind, a creative mind, a strong woman.

Getting involved with The Catalyst Center for Business & Entrepreneurship and Vistage Worldwide, Inc. was crucial for my growth. These platforms provided diverse perspectives, problem-solving techniques, and a supportive environment that I needed.

A key step in my transformation was actively participating in various events, meetings, and gatherings of business leaders. By being vocal, sharing ideas, and embracing continuous learning, I realized that everyone has insecurities, and true growth comes from facing and overcoming these fears. Surrounding myself with a supportive network that aligns with my goals was essential for success.

Today, supporting others who face similar challenges is a deeply personal passion project for me, spurred from my own experiences stepping into and growing in my CEO role. I now dedicate a portion of my personal time to speaking about this important topic and mentoring others. Recognizing one’s achievements and maintaining a supportive circle are crucial steps to overcoming self-doubt and imposter syndrome.

The "Turn Fear into Power" workshop provided attendees with practical tools to manage fears and enhance personal efficacy. We explored common business anxieties, crafted personalized toolkits for success, and engaged in valuable peer learning exercises. Sharing my experiences with fellow women in tech in Huntsville underscored the power of mentorship, continuous learning, and community support in overcoming personal and professional challenges.

I also want to highlight the incredible work of WIT // HSV. This North Alabama-focused community platform is dedicated to educating, encouraging, and empowering women with the expertise, mentorship, and connections needed to succeed in STEM careers. Their mission is to support women who aim high and want to make an impact through technology, leadership, and inspiration, and to help women transform their communities, fast forward their businesses and careers, and effectively move through challenges using the tools, connections, and resources provided.
